Fact 12

Okay okay, I know today’s fact is pretty late but it is not past midnight yet! I actually read this fact originally in a craft book that is at my work for the kids and I figured it is a quick and fun fact about an everyday (to me) item.

The amount of duct tape sold each year is enough to stretch further than the distance to the moon (approx 1.2 times) or to wrap around the equator of the earth over a dozen times (approx 12.3).

  1. The word punch is a loanword from Sanskrit पञ्च (pañc), meaning “five”, as the drink was originally made with five ingredients: alcohol, sugar, lemon, water, and tea or spices.[4][5]

The drink was brought to England from India by sailors and employees of the British East India Company in the early seventeenth century. From there it was introduced into other European countries. When served communally, the drink is expected to be of a lower alcohol content than a typical cocktail.[3][6]
