I am not entirely certain why I decided to go with this fact today, however I have a suspicion it has something to do with my love for history.
Of the 3 main leaders who formed the Axis in World War II, Benito Mussolini of Italy, Adolf Hitler of Germany, and Hirohito of Japan, Mussolini actually was in power first. Mussolini became the main authority in Italy by 1922 and made himself dictator by 1925. Emperor Hirohito was crowned prince of Japan in 1926. Finally, Hitler became chancellor of Germany in 1933 and became dictator in 1934.
I am going to apologize for my recent decrease in facts, however I have been very busy lately and am also struggling with what to have facts about. Today’s fact was actually brought about because for a school project, I believe it was in high school, I was required to do research on Switzerland.
The capital of Switzerland is Bern and the country consists of 26 cantons, which are the Canadian equivalents of provinces or American states.
Oh the wonders of being a student. It is unfortunate that I put off Fact of the Day for a few days but I have returned and with some wonderful knowledge. I apologize to those of you in my ECS 100 class, as you have already heard this fact.
In Saskatchewan there are 60 independent schools (ie. private, charter, virtual, home-based, Montessori, historical, immersion…etc.). It was interesting seeing this list as there are many schools that I have never heard of, yet I live in the same city as them.

The world’s smallest country is Vatican City. It is a 0.2 square mile area, walled off, in the middle of Rome. Here is a third link as well.
I suppose I am on a sort of animal kick. However, today’s fact is actually fairly, well, awesome.
Giraffes have an 18-20 inch (about 45-50 cm) long tongue. It is black, purple, or blue, that turns pink further back. Enjoy these beautiful pictures of giraffes.
