Fact 26

I suppose I am on a sort of animal kick. However, today’s fact is actually fairly, well, awesome.

Giraffes have an 18-20 inch (about 45-50 cm) long tongue. It is black, purple, or blue, that turns pink further back. Enjoy these beautiful pictures of giraffes.

Fact 20

Today I will be posting a few related facts, since I missed yesterday’s fact of the day. I also just really like polar bears, as you may have guess or may know.

Polar bears actually have black skin to help themselves absorb heat from the sun, which is then covered with their white fur to blend in with the environment. Polar bear’s paws are about 12 inches (31 centimeters) across and are slightly webbed to aid their swimming. Finally, polar bear’s fur is not actually white. Each individual shaft is pigment free (transparent) and has a hollow core.

Fact 4

I like polar bears; they are wonderful creatures. A friend of mine told me a fun fact about them but I could not easily verify its validity so instead here is some other fun information!

Polar bears (Ursus maritimus) have a lifespan of 25-30 years in the wild and can weigh between 410-72o kg, that’s 900-1 600 lbs. They also have a 3-5 inch (cute little nubby) tail.
